Plan costs · ask for the whole bill

What is the whole bill?

Ask for the cost of the care you would actually receive. Keep the drug price and the other charges on separate lines.

A useful price example

Check what happens after the offer

Ozempic is a brand name for semaglutide.

As of 26 September 2026, a cash offer for Ozempic injections started at $199 per month.

That price was limited to eligible new patients’ first two monthly supplies.

Only selected strengths were included in that opening price.

A dose contains an amount of medicine; that amount is its strength.

Depending on strength, the listed price for later monthly supplies was $349 or $499.

Those offer terms ran through 31 December 2026.

That is an example of a medicine offer, not a quote for your care. Ask for the cost after any opening discount.

The bill to request

Ask for every line in writing

Take this list into the price conversation. Ask what the quoted price includes and what would appear on a separate bill.

  • The first assessment.
  • The medicine and delivery.
  • Any tests requested for your care.
  • Later visits and questions between visits.
  • Any membership or renewal charge.

Ask how to end a membership, whether unused time is refunded, and whether a fee renews on its own. Keep the written answer with the quote.

Insurance

Name the product and the reason for it

When asking about coverage, use the exact product name and the reason the health professional gives for treatment. Ask the plan to explain any extra approval step.

As of 26 September 2026, Medicare’s drug benefit could cover these medicines for accepted uses other than weight loss, subject to the plan’s rules.

Even when coverage is possible, payment still needs the plan’s agreement.

Prior authorization is the plan’s advance agreement to pay. Ask who sends that request, what records it needs, and how you will hear the answer.

A separate Medicare route

Check the temporary program’s terms

As of 26 September 2026, a temporary Medicare program offered covered weight-treatment medicines to eligible people with a $50 monthly copay.

A copay names the amount of a bill paid by the patient.

The program was scheduled to run from 1 July 2026 through 31 December 2027.

Wegovy is another brand name for semaglutide.

Wegovy was included in the temporary program.

Ozempic for weight loss was not included.

This program has health and plan rules.

It requires a prescription and approval from the program.

This temporary program excludes anyone who has type 2 diabetes, including those also seeking help with weight.

They must ask their usual Medicare drug plan about coverage instead.
