Visit questions · bring a short note
What will the visit cover?
Write down the help you are seeking. Keep space for an explanation of the fit and later care from the clinician—the health professional doing your assessment.
Your goal
Ask what treatment would be for
Ozempic is a brand name for semaglutide.
On 26 September 2026, the approved uses of Ozempic injections included blood-sugar control and other uses for adults who have type 2 diabetes.
Wegovy is another brand name for semaglutide.
Its approval covered weight loss and keeping weight off, together with food and activity changes.
Ozempic injections were not FDA-approved for weight loss.
Prescribers may legally choose an FDA-approved medicine to treat something beyond its approved uses.
That extra use still has no FDA approval.
Ask for the product name and form in writing. If the answer uses a word you do not know, stop there and ask what it means.
Your health history
Bring the details that affect the conversation
The semaglutide label calls for checking several parts of your health history.
The label warns about thyroid tumors: growths with possible signs such as a neck lump or a lasting hoarse voice.
The cancer check includes medullary thyroid cancer, the rare cancer type named in the label’s strongest warning.
The check covers your own cancer history and your family’s history.
Past pancreatitis, serious swelling that may cause severe or lasting belly pain, also matters.
Past gallstones or related swelling also matter.
The review includes severe stomach problems and eye damage caused by diabetes.
Pregnancy plans, other diabetes medicines and planned surgery matter to that label review too.
If you remember a cancer, belly problem or operation but not its medical name, bring the records. Ask the clinician to match those records to the label’s checks.
- List each medicine and supplement you are taking.
- Bring any health records the service has asked for.
- Note the help you are seeking and the approaches already tried.
- Leave space for the clinician’s explanation.
You do not need to decide which detail is important before the visit. Give the clinician the list and talk it through.

Telehealth means a visit by video, phone or online messages. It can feel easier to have your note beside you than to remember it all at once.
The national body that brings state medical boards together is the Federation of State Medical Boards.
Proper care needed more than having a patient choose from a medicine list, it said in May 2026.
The clinician must assess the patient, rather than base treatment only on that choice.
The same guidance calls for a route back to the clinician when patients have follow-up questions.
This is advice for state boards.
The rules that can be enforced are each state’s own.
As of 26 September 2026, states differed in what they accepted for an online prescribing assessment.

After the visit
Ask for a plan you can explain back
For patients who have diabetes, Wegovy’s label calls for blood-sugar checks.
It also calls for regular checks of how fast the heart beats.
Kidney checks are needed when unwanted effects, such as bad vomiting or loose stools, cause fluid loss.
Try explaining the plan back, using your own words. Ask how things would proceed without an offer of treatment, if you choose to wait, or if the plan needs changing.
